He was formally trained in Periodontics at UCLA School of Dentistry, in Implant Dentistry at Loma Linda University and in Prosthodontics at University of Aachen, Germany and holds a Master of Sciences degree in Oral Biology from UCLA. He graduated dental school from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands (ACTA).
Since 1990 he resides in Los Angeles and has trained thousands of dentists worldwide the art and science of implant dentistry, bone and soft tissue grafting and his esthetic protocols. He restricts his patient and research work for over 20 years to dental implant therapy and bone & soft tissue reconstruction, is Chairman and Founder of the gIDE Institute – a internationally leading post-graduate dental research, education & training center (www.gidedental.com).

He is past-president of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), past Co-Director of the UCLA Implant Center and past-Board member of AO’s Osseointegration Foundation. He was the program chair of the EAO 2000 annual scientific congress, recipient of the young investigator fellowship of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Implantology award of the California Society of Periodontists and the German Implant Society Research award. He is an honorary member of the South African Society of Periodontology and has been special consultant to the Ministry of Health in Montenegro.

Dr. Jovanovic holds dental licenses in California, Arizona and the European Union countries and is generally recognized as a world authority in dental implant treatment. Patients and Doctors travel from far and beyond to seek his opinion and / or treatment.

Dr. Jovanovic’s clinical research emphazises surgical and esthetic management in dental implant therapy and bone and soft tissue reconstruction techniques. His applied research focuses on bone regeneration with different bone graft materials, rhBMP-2 growth factors and barrier membranes as well as the biology of soft tissues around teeth and implants.

He teaches implant dentistry worldwide, has published 65 scientific articles and book chapters, and one textbook titled Color Atlas of Implantology (Thieme Publ.) which was translated in 6 languages. He is on several editorial boards for scientific journals, has published a DVD and Online education series titled ‘Advanced Implant Therapy’ and is the Academic Chairman of the 1-year gIDE Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry which graduates over 150 new certified implant dentists per year worldwide and holds its last session at the UCLA School of Dentistry.
