John Remmers, MD

Dr. John Remmers was first to demonstrate that sleep apnea is due to an anatomical narrowing of the pharynx. He went on to develop various technologies and medical devices to treat sleep apnea, most notably the Tranquility CPAP® (continuous positive airway pressure) device. Following the success of that device, he has continued to provide tools to medical professionals, most notably the REMstar, an automatically adjusting CPAP device, and MATRx, a mandibular advancement titration device used in the prescription and characterization of oral appliance therapy. In addition to serving as chief medical officer for Zephyr Sleep Technologies Inc., he is clinically active at the Southern Alberta Sleep Centre and continues his research at the Foothills Sleep Laboratory.
